Autumn heart in a bottle: Bois Blond

You know, people can get gloomy in the fall. Shortening of the days, plants going underground, chill in the air, blah blah blah.

I love it. I love every season when it comes, to be honest. But now it's autumn's turn to get the love.

There is something powerful about the sun at this time of year; it is sweet and warm in character as well as color and temperature, if shorter in duration. The earth gets warmed just enough to have a good loamy smell before settling into a cool uncomposted leafy something. There is a gentle urgency to the chores in the garden, the knowledge that they must be done now, even as a few moments of basking are allowed.

That pause between urgency and lounging...the overlay of one on top of the other...put into relief both the beauty of sunny warmth and greyish brownish chill.

Bois Blond is all about the foreshortened sunny warmth of a fully lived season. It's the hay after a full day of sun, cooked ambery, still sweet with greenish vegetation. It's an embrace on a bright autumn day. It opens all about the tobacco and the hay, and ends up with both cooked in the sun, part of a moldering compost heap that has hints of the sweet Guillame-ade. "I heart BB," says the text to my BFF. It's so wonderful on a sunny autumn day. It's all joy that understands melancholy--it might even have been there before, but isn't going to go back...yet.

Cashmere,
Do! And let me know what you think. Always interesting to hear another nose speak. :)

DC, I obviously think it's all that when it comes to fall, but I looked back last night and realized I had waxed rhapsodic about it last spring, too. I know you are being faithful to your regular scent partners, but if you ever go to Luckyscent, you might want to give it a sniff, just for fun.

Well. Yet another to add to the test list... :)

Autumn is probably my favorite season. I adore the colors, the liquid-gold quality of the light, the gentle melancholy.

Today I have Mauboussin on one wrist and Theorema on the other, but I find myself wishing they were Shalimar Light, so I suppose I need another bottle of SL before it entirely disappears... sigh.

I love autumn, too--not least because it is the best season hereabouts for enjoying perfume. Some days are warm enough for light florals, other days are cool enough for the heaviest orientals.

Bois Blond sounds like my sort of thing. I'll have to give it a try.

Mals, put me at the start of a season, and I'm in love. It's not that I'm fickle. More like the way I can be passionate about each of my unique children...your heart grows space. But right now I am feeling the passion for those very things you mention...the light...the mood...

Heh, another scent to try! And so you should. :)

Mauboussin I know not of...perhaps you will talk about it on your blog? And oh, if you already have Shalimar Light in a bottle, and the bottle is disappearing, that must be a True Love?

BG, I find autumn to be prime time for scents, too. I don't mind the variations in weather for the very reasons you mention...opportunity knocks, as far as variety.

Bois Blond is unfortunately one of those blasted Private Collection offerings from Parfumerie Generale...if it's not reformulation that is raising the anxiety level, it is the "limited edition" nonsense. sigh I shouldn't call it nonsense; in the real world, supplies can be limited, and perhaps it is more honest to point out up front that a formula can't be replicated. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't expand in sympathy with supply and demand.

Do share your impressions if you try it.

Yep, reviewed Mauboussin today.

MAN, Bois Blond sounds lovely. hay? tobacco? green? sigh. One of my All Time Favorites is PdN Le Temps d'une Fete, all green narcissus and hay, with a hint of moss. Gorgeous stuff. Smelling it just makes me happy.

Hmm, we may have some important crossover in our scent taste. Le Temps d'une Fete is one of my Definite Dozen.

Autumn is magic isn't it. I can find something to like about all the seasons but Autumn has something special- and it's so fleeting. I am loving breaking out the slightly heavier scents. I don't remember Bois Blonde very well but am a big PG fan.

Rose, it has become apparent to me that PG is one "house" I could happily live in. I have many happy places to visit, but taking up residence is quite a commitment. Yet, I think I could do that with the Guillames...
